Bigger, Better, and Bolder

Those who attended the 2010 Rotary International Convention in Montreal heard RI President-elect Ray Klinginsmith ask Rotarians to apply “cowboy logic” and make Rotary clubs “Bigger, Better, and Bolder”.

He went on to explain that the fundamental principles of cowboy logic are taking pride in your work, talking less and saying more, doing what has to be done, and remembering that some things just aren’t for sale!

“I believe the way for Rotary to remain viable and vibrant in the next century is to help our clubs to be bigger, better, and bolder,” Klinginsmith said.  “The clubs are the life and breath of Rotary.  Therefore, it is clear to me that my job is to help the district governors to help the clubs.  We can do it, and we will do it, if all of us follow the simple solution of cowboy logic.”

A long-time friend of Ray said, “Ray will bring to Rotary International the notion that we don’t have to be afraid to change”.

This is a great time to look carefully at what we are doing in our club meetings and our projects and change practices and even traditions that inhibit new members from joining with us.  This is a great time to be innovative and creative.  Think new and exciting!  Our core values – service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership – are not for sale.   But we can certainly apply these in fresh, new, and appealing ways.

Want to see some new ideas in action?  READ ON – there are Bigger, Better, Bolder events coming up very fast in our district!   Don’t miss the excitement!

District Conference – Fallbrook in the Fall – October 21-24, 2010

Yes, October 2010.  YOU are invited to attend our very first FALL District Conference ever – just 3 ½ months from now!  We are combining three great events – the Foundation Seminar, the Foundation Gala, and the District Conference – into one big weekend of FUN and EXCITEMENT – in Fallbrook.

Our headquarters site is the beautiful Pala Mesa Resort and we’ll have special events at the Grand Tradition Arbor Terrace and the Lazy Creek Ranch.  You won’t want to miss any of it.

We will be celebrating our successes in the fight to eradicate Polio from the face of the Earth.  Among our keynote speakers will be Dr. Peter Salk, whose father invented the polio vaccine.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Fallbrook, the Rotary Club of Fallbrook Village, and the Rotary Club of Bonsall.  As a special feature of this conference, members of these clubs will open up their homes for out-of-town guests to stay Friday and Saturday night for free!   Or if you’d prefer we do have great rooms available at the Pala Mesa Resort.  Three Rotary events for the price of one – and free rooms as well – now that’s a great idea!

Registration is available on the district website now.  We will have a special president’s meeting on Friday afternoon.  I urge ALL club presidents to sign up NOW and to urge your board members and club members to do the same— http://www.rotary5340.org/conference1010/index.html. We have a limited time to promote this conference and we do expect a sell-out.

In closing, again quoting RI President Ray Klingensmith, “…we need to share our core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership with other people and organizations.”  We are looking forward to a GREAT year of Rotary service.   Thank you for making a difference.
